We are a highly non-profit organization! We are a registered 501c3 serving the Mid-Shore of Md., a Great Place to be!
In 2015, we began as WHCP-LP at 101.5, a low powered fm radio frequency (71 watts) covering a 10 mile radius from downtown Cambridge.
In July of 2023, we transitioned to a full high-power 14,000 watts and moved to 91.7 on the dial. And, we became the only NPR Member Station on the Mid-Shore! We live here, we are community members. The people who contribute to our on-air news and music programming understand the value of Local. Our Mid-Shore Reader program offers audio readings of numerous publications, we provide reading service receivers (selected channel radios) to those with Macular Degeneration, visual and/or physical disabilities at no charge to them.
Bringing award-winning fact-based NPR News magazines to the Mid-Shore is expensive. WHCP is an independently funded community radio station. We depend on no federal dollars, no appropriations from state universities, and only two modes specific state grants supporting the station.
Funding support from listeners via major gifts, vehicle donations, planned giving, sustaining monthly and annual memberships, business and non-profit sponsorships, and local foundation support are the wind that powers the good ship WHCP-FM through the airwaves.
