Marty Stuart once described his first encounter with Connie Smith in 1970, while she was performing at a concert near his home in Philadelphia, Mississippi. "I met Connie when I was 12 years old. She hasn't changed a bit. She looked great then and she looks great now." Stuart said that he told his mother then that he would one day marry Connie Smith. Stuart and Smith have been married since July 8, 1997.
